Enviromental
Policy
Penfold
Buscombe takes an active role in promoting sound
environment policies throughout the organisation.
Ninety-seven percent of unused paper is recycled.
Environmentally friendly inks are used and 100% of
aluminium plates are recycled.
As a result of these initiatives
Penfold Buscombe can proudly report that we have
saved in the past 12 months the equivalent of more
than:
50,000
trees (17 trees can absorb the carbon dioxide
emitted from your car each year). |
9,700 barrels of oil. |
16 million Kwh of
electricity (the average household uses 10 000
kwh of electricity per year, so by recycling
we have saved enough to power 1600 average size
houses). |
15,500 cubic metres
of landfill saved. |
125 million litres
of water (the average bathtub is 500 litres -
so by recycling we have saved 250,000 bathtubs
of water!). |

Penfold Buscombe is committed to:
Comply
with all relevant environmental legislation and
industry best practice guidelines. |
Maintain and continually
monitor a waste minimisation and management programme
to ensure recycling / re-using culture is adopted. |
Monitor and control
energy and water consumption. |
Evaluate and monitor
the environmental competence of all suppliers. |
Engineer an environmental
awareness spirit with employees across the group
through initial and on-going training programmes. |
Ensure the prevention
of pollution in all activities. |

Use of
environmentally friendly inks |

Emissions strictly
controlled and below EPA requirements. |
Waste recycling and
promotion of recycled papers. |

Regular reviews with
environmental authorities. |

Regular reviews are undertaken
by external inspectors to ensure compliance to our
corporate standards.
Penfold Buscombe is committed to
preserving a healthy environment as demonstrated
by the practical steps illustrated below.
70% of
the paper Penfold Buscombe print is recycled
and environmentally friendly. |
The inks Penfold Buscombe
print with are all soy based. To further minimise
the impact of printed material on the environment,
Penfold Buscombe have commenced working with
the latest range of 'environmentally friendly'
inks which address the issue of hydrocarbon resins,
and refined mineral distillates. These ranges
of inks are known as the Ecolith & Lotus
- Eco Plus series. |
100% of all boxes
for packaging are made from recycled cardboard. |
97% of all paper waste
is recycled. |
All plastic is recycled. |
A licensed contractor
disposes all our chemicals. The EPA issues all
licenses and as part of our policy all suppliers
must have an approved licenses before they can
be a supplier. This ensures there practices fall
within the EPA's environmental stance which
Penfold Buscombe fully supports. |
100% of all our metal
printing plates are recycled. |
We have digital workflow
computer to plate. The water board visits us
on a monthly basis to test and measure contamination. |
All proofs are chemical
free digital proofs. All toner cartridges from
the plant are recycled. |
All our chemicals
are environmentally friendly low volatility.
Solvents with much higher flashpoints are now
routinely being used in the pressroom. This means
that the hydrocarbons are less volatile, and
considerably less escapes into the atmosphere.
The lower volatility also contributes to the
reduction, because the solvent remains as a liquid
to remove the ink rather than just flashing off
into the air as a vapour. While the printing
industry still requires the use of some isopropyl
alcohol (IPA) as an aid to lithography, improvements
in fountain solution technology have greatly
reduced the level required. It's not so
long ago that up to 25% IPA was needed, the levels
are now down to less than 10% with global research
and development. |
Penfold Buscombe is
currently involved in the research and development
of alcohol elimination. |
All desks throughout
the factory have recycled bins are placed next
to them and all staff are encouraged to recycled
paper waste. |
Penfold Buscombe produces
no toxic emissions |
The spray powder used
in the pressroom is fully digestible and environmentally
friendly. |
Our Factory Managers
participate in courses about the appropriate
means and handling of liquid waste practices. |
Our
corporate policy is to undertake a responsible role
in all key areas - employees, the environment
and society.
