Firm
foundations
Penfold Printing
Limited was established and publicly listed in
1989, taking over the printing division of W.C.
Penfold Ltd. This now included several leading
print businesses, including: |
 |
 |
 |
Concord Corporate
Communications - established over 50 years
ago and acquired by W.C. Penfold as a specialist
in financial services and corporate printing.
Concord had since developed a leading design
studio with a full range of services, and talented
staff on par with the best. |
 |
 |
 |
David J File Printers was
the final business to join Penfold Printing,
merging in 2001. |
 |
 |
 |
Mockridge Bulmer - had
been established in 1957 and was purchased by
W.C. Penfold in 1970. The operation was run from
St Leonards, sharing space with David J File
Printing and URI Printing, to offer end-to-end
client services and a dedicated direct mail division. |
 |
 |
 |
Prestige Plates - began operations
in Darlinghurst in 1972, originally as film bench
planning and plate making specialists. As technology
advanced, Prestige Plates added drum scanning
and began the progression towards a full digital
workflow. In 1996, Prestige merged with Southport
Printing and Chanel Press (see below) and now
joins the Penfold Buscombe team. |
 |
 |
 |
RT Kelly joined the Penfold
Buscombe group with an enviable reputation for
printing of the highest quality. The recipient
of numerous awards, the staff at RT Kelly were
twice judged Australia's best printers
and received a coveted Heidelberg Award for Excellence
in Craft. |
 |
 |
 |
URI Printing - began business
in 1972 and became part of the Penfold Printing
group in 1998. |
Victorian
moves
Meanwhile in Victoria, origins can be traced
back to 1865 |
 |
 |
 |
Victorian Printing
(was Vicprint), established in 1865. By 1996
Vicprint was employing 80 staff to produce quality
offset printing on full-size presses. The company
was also leading Australia in personalised direct
marketing through its Action Mailer Division. |
 |
 |
 |
Buscombe Printers was
established around 50 years ago. Buscombe Printers
achieved strong organic growth year on year in
the 80's and 90's as well as gaining
a strong reputation for quality and service. |
 |
 |
 |
Buscombe Printers and
Victorian Printing merged operations in 1996
to form Buscombe Vicprint. |
 |
 |
 |
Chanel Press (part of the
Prestige Plates Group - see above) was the next
company to join the Buscombe Victoria group.
After 40 years the company had evolved from box
making into a quality commercial printer and
was a welcome addition to the family. |
 |
Queenland Prestige
In Queensland, Southport Printing has
been operating for over 30 years - starting,
as it's
name would suggest, in the Gold Coast suburb
of Southport. In 1996, the company became part
of
the Prestige
Plates
Group, who also acquired the small Bowen Hills
business Inkolour Pty Ltd in 1999, and the
specialist prepress
house Splash Colour Pty Ltd in June 2000.

Combined to form Penfold Buscombe
Penfold Buscombe has achieved something that
no other print communications business in Australia
has done.
We are now a united business with
a singular focussed direction operating large-scale
plants
along the East Coast of Australia, ideally
placed
to be an industry leader for many years to
come.
